What do you do when you are busy-busy?

Hi! I have not forgotten about my blog, just been busy.

I have found the past two weeks have been really busy and unexpected things have cropped up pushing my time over & causing me to miss scheduled classes. I love going to the exercise classes that I have been posting about, but have been unable to go the past few weeks for a variety of reasons. I have made a few of the water fitness classes, but not the land-based ones.

It is hard having a set workout schedule, I know, and I feel bad that my workout buddy (the awesome Liz D.) gets abandoned when I can't make it. I am also afraid that if I don't get back into a routine I will just stop as that has been my modis operandi in the past. (Perhaps by posting that that will prevent it from happening.)

The next six days of my life are booked with a 5-day cartography conference and an all-day volunteer opportunity at the Dallas Cowboys -Tennessee Titans game squeezed in on Sunday. The conferences are 8-12 hrs a day with 3-meals provided and no real opportunity to leave. I also have to be professionally dressed, so it is not like I can run off for an hour of super sweaty BOSU Blast and come back fresh as a daisy.

I am not a get-up-at-4am-to-get-in-a-workout type of girl, so with that in mind my question to you is this:

What do you to to ensure you get your workout in?

  1. Other than scheduling it like a meeting, I'm not really sure. Try to go after the conference each day? Maybe hard though since you'll be tired.

Oh yeah, my sister turned me on to this website: www.myfitnesspal.com It lets you track all the food you've eaten (with a handy database of products so you don't have to calculate totals youself!) and track what workouts you've done that day (provided you put it in the Cardio section and not under Strength!), it's helped keep me honest about what I am eating.

  2. Scheduling workouts is very difficult at first, Mylynka. I have my good weeks, and also my bad. Some days, I have incredible amounts of energy and breeze through my workout, other days, it feels like my feet are stapled to the ground. I have a window of time where I NEED to get my workout in: between 1 and 3 hours after I get home from work. If I don't workout in that time frame, it gets too late, and I miss it altogether. I also tried the morning routine, and working out at 4:30am is no fun. If you have a certain time of day that is 'slow' for you, I say try and get your workout done then. Of course, you are at the mercy of the scheduled classes. Just keep on 'keeping on'. Do your best, and eventually you will look forward to your daily sessions and find that missing one actually disappoints you. Life has a habit of getting in the way of everything, so just hang in there, do your best to exercise whenever you can, and don't beat yourself up for missing workouts! I wish you the best of luck!

  3. My best advice is don't beat yourself up. Sometimes "life" gets in the way so you have to take some time off, just make sure you're making healthy eating choices and drinking plenty of water. And remember, even though you're not doing anything hardcore like BOSU, as long as you are moving, you are working out. So when you get up to walk, stake the long route, throw in a couple of extra steps, etc. It all counts!
